This reservoir was created in the 1970's, and is the largest in europe. The village of Nether Hambleton was flooded beneath it.

Diving is not permitted here. I received the following info from Anglian Water in June 04.

: We suspended diving at Rutland Water over 5 years ago
: for safety and operational reasons. In addition there are no sunken
: village remains. Some farm houses and houses were demolished in
: preparation for the reservoir in the 1970s but that's about it.
